Abstract

This report analyses more than 1.5 million workplace bookings made on the Nura Space platform between 1 January and 30 June 2024, across 15 countries, 151 buildings and 372 floors, with 81% of offices in Australia. Compared with the first half of 2023, more bookings turned into actual attendance, people booked further ahead, and attendance stayed concentrated on Tuesday to Thursday. The report sets out check-in rates, weekday patterns, booking lead times and the channels people use to book, and what they mean for capacity planning in hybrid offices.

Key findings

  1. 69% of bookings led to a check-in in H1 2024, up from 55% in H1 2023. Cancellations fell from 45% to 31%.
  2. 1.33 bookings per user per week, 14% higher than the 1.17 recorded in H1 2023.
  3. 5.26 days in the office per user per month, up 10% from 4.78 days in 2023.
  4. 40% of bookings were made more than a week ahead, up from 34%. Bookings made less than a day ahead fell from 30% to 22%.
  5. 15% of daily traffic comes from iOS or Android devices, even though 80% of users have downloaded the mobile app. Most people book through Microsoft Teams on a laptop.

About the data

The report compares bookings made on the Nura Space platform in the first half of 2024 (1 January to 30 June) with the same period in 2023. The 2024 data covers more than 1.5 million bookings across 15 countries, 151 buildings and 372 floors, with 81% of offices in Australia. User numbers were up 170% year on year.

Countries represented: Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Luxembourg, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Bookings and check-ins by weekday

Tuesday to Thursday carry the most bookings and the most attendance in both years, while Friday is the quietest day for check-ins. This leaves offices under-used for two days a week and puts pressure on capacity mid-week. Organisations are responding with booking reminders, prompts to check in or cancel the night before, and automatic cancellation of bookings that are not checked in within a set time.

Check-in rate by weekday

Check-in rates rose on every weekday. To spread attendance more evenly, many organisations are moving to weekly rosters or team days, so that people's office days overlap with the colleagues they need to work with.

Fewer bookings are being made at the last minute and more are made over a week in advance, which points to people planning their office days further ahead. Bookings made one to two days ahead held steady at 17% of the total in both years.

How people book and check in

Windows devices account for 84% of daily traffic, other devices 8%, iOS 6% and Android 2%. People engage with the platform mainly through Microsoft Teams and the web, with API integrations into in-house applications also in use.

Organisations offer several ways to check in: scanning a QR code at the work-point, tapping check-in in the mobile app or web platform, RFID check-in with a security access card, automatic check-in when an employee badges into the building, and Bluetooth from the user's phone at the desk. Check-in data shows how desks are actually used and lets unused bookings be released automatically.

“Organisations with a clear workplace purpose are more successful. A well-defined strategy makes it easier to manage change, boost engagement and strengthen business resilience.”
